In southeastern Texas is a large city known as League City. League City is positioned about 25 miles south of Houston and sits west of Galveston Bay. It is part of the Greater Houston Metropolitan Area and sits in Galveston County. The first resident of League City, George W. Butler, arrived in the area of modern-day League City in 1873. Originally, the community was known as Butler’s Ranch. In 1893, a gentleman named J.C. League purchased the land the community was located on. League then laid out the town along the Galveston, Houston and Henderson Railroad which provided great economic opportunities to the community. The community continued to grow and by 1930, about 1,200 people were living in League City. Today, League City continues to grow in population size. It is home to many facilities, amenities, and attractions. The suburban city is popular among individuals who work in Houston due to its close proximity to the city. League City is located in a region of the United States that experiences very warm weather during the summer seasons and mild weather during the winter seasons.
