Webster is a growing city in southern Texas. It is 23 miles southeast of Houston in the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown Metropolitan Area. Webster is located in Harris County and had a population of approximately 11,075 people in 2016 according to the United States Census Bureau.

When Webster was founded in 1879, it was known as Gardentown. James Webster, who founded Gardentown, brought a group of English colonist to the community. The colonists were the first individuals to become established in the community. In 1882, the community opened a post office under the name Websterville. By 1890, the population of Websterville had grown to 140. The community continued to grow and its name was eventually shortened to Webster. In 1958, the community became an incorporated city.
